He said the NDP platform is filled with spending promises that would lead to massive tax hikes including an increase in Employment Insurance and Canada Pension Plan premiums, as well as a $20 billion carbon tax that experts say would lead to an increase at the gas pump of at least 10 cents a litre.
"What to remember in this election is there's different races in every part of the country, and in every riding. And in every riding it is important that we continue to fight hard, that we not take everything for granted, that we get every vote out, because every vote is going to count."
we know will have a devastating effect on consumers' pockets and ultimately on our economy and the destruction of jobs."
NIAGARA FALLS, Ont Conservative leader Stephen Harper has warned that a "band of opponents" led by the NDP would deliver "devastating" hikes in taxes and on consumers' pocketbooks if they ever take power.
Harper boasted of his government's record on Quebec, noting that there has been a gradual drop in support for sovereignty since he took office five years ago.
"The choice is to continue on the economic track we're on. Low taxes that are providing jobs and enabling Converse High Top Leather Boots
"Quebecers understand that one of the big problems they have is that they are one of the most over taxed people in the world. And I think as the choice becomes more and more clear, I am confident the Conservative party has strong members of Parliament who have delivered to Quebec real affordable benefits and projects in their riding without raising their taxes."
"We've worked collaboratively with provincial governments, we have fully funded our transfer obligations. And in terms of Quebec's differences, we have respected and acknowledged and accommodated the differences of Quebecers as a nation within our country."
"That is the choice. And it's the choice no matter which one of these parties is leading this band of opponents."
Harper was scheduled to travel to Quebec City later in the day, to appear at an evening rally attended by many Tory candidates and their supporters.

It was in Quebec that the rise of the NDP was first noticed, and Harper said he has a simple message for people in that province.
Harper said Quebecers do not want a return to the Bloc's "era of another referendum" or to the prospect of more constitutional negotiations suggested by the NDP.
"Quebecers are not going to, in my view, knowingly going to vote for a party or a coalition that will bring enormous tax increases on them at the federal level."

Harper made the pledge amid continuing criticism from other parties on the issue. The Liberals, while not issuing an outright rejection of the need for an agreement, have complained that the Conservative government is negotiating in secrecy and may be putting Canadian sovereignty on the table.
"The truth of the matter is the NDP's positions on these things are the most starkly clear. Higher taxes. Higher spending. Higher prices. Protectionism. That would be such an enormous step backwards and Canadians need to understand how dramatically different the choices really are when you're looking at two Parliaments one with a Conservative majority, the other a minority Parliament with a ramshackle coalition led by the NDP that will not last but will do a lot of destruction."
Also, in an apparent effort to send out a message to party workers that the election isn't over yet, he said the race is being fought out on the ground riding by riding.

Harper warns of devastation and destruction if NDP gains control
