The restaurant is a venture of Perfect Practice, Sperber and Mike O'Connor. Called Game Changer, it will be designed and managed by Tony Kellar, who most recently owned Acoustic in downtown Sioux Falls.
The facility will house baseball, softball, soccer, basketball and volleyball. Owner Gary Sperber said hundreds of kids are scheduled to practice there through various organizations, and tournaments are being scheduled.
Perfect Practice Sports Academy plans to open its 55,000 square foot center next month. It's located off North Cliff Avenue in Harrisburg south of Schoeneman's Building Materials Center.
Harrisburg mayor Julie Burke Bowen said it's exciting to see work already starting on a second phase of Perfect Practice.
The owners said they want to turn the area into a hub for the Harrisburg community that is convenient for families with kids in multiple sports. Perfect Practice also will include an academic study room, conference room, locker rooms, drop off day care and embroidery shop.
As a large indoor sports center prepares to open in Harrisburg, owners are making plans for a second phase that will include a restaurant from the former owners of Acoustic in downtown Sioux Falls.
Acoustic also will staff a concession area within Converse Dainty Mid Blue Perfect Practice.
"It has been so interesting watching the first phase work towards completion and we expect the second phase to be even more exciting," she said. "The Game Changer will bring a new and invigorating dining option to Harrisburg, which will complement Perfect Practice's impact to our city."
Chef Josh Kellar will head the kitchen and menu creation, which will include some customer favorites from Acoustic.
"It will be a large operation, so we will be hiring many folks," Kellar said.
Harrisburg sports center plans expansion
The restaurant will seat nearly 300 people and include a three season patio. With some glass enclosures, fireplaces, and radiant heat, Kellar said it will be operational for much of the year.
Excavation work will start this week on the second phase of Perfect Practice, which includes the restaurant. The plan is to open Game Changer Restaurant in early June.
Sperber also bought three acres adjacent to the new building where he's planning a second phase of projects. They include a 60,000 square foot field of turf for t ball, flag football and young kids' soccer along with two sand volleyball courts and a 9,000 square foot restaurant.

"With a bigger facility we'll be able to diversify and do so much more," Tony Kellar said. "It's exciting."
The restaurant is designed to include a lot of wood, stone and earth tones. The idea is to create a family friendly destination that doesn't feel like a typical sports bar, Kellar said.
Perfect Practice also is possible. Sperber said he's hoping to develop other land into nine baseball and softball fields and might start that this fall.
